Library Associate 2

LOCATION: Millington Public Library, Tennessee

HOURS PER WEEK: 30-40

The Library Associate 3 role is the senior role in the Library Associate job family and may supervise Library Associate 1s and 2s. About half of this position is providing excellent customer service at our library circulation desk including: greeting patrons, checking materials in/out, registering and providing an orientation for new patrons, placing holds, processing interlibrary loans, handling fines, helping patrons find books/information, and assisting patrons at our public computers with basic technology questions. The other half of this position will be scheduling, planning, promoting, and implementing library programs (including setup and clean-up) as part of the library team. 

RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Provides customer service to patrons by greeting, providing tours and assisting patrons in all areas of the library
  • Planning and presenting children's Storytime, Craft Time and other children's programs
  • Planning and presenting adult programs especially technology classes
  • Finding and scheduling new performers, speakers, and educators for library programs
  • Delegating responsibilities to LA1s and LA2s for smooth service desk workflow and/or program success
  • Working closely with Library Director to plan, implement and promote programming activities
  • Inform library patrons of rules of conduct as necessary, and enforce those rules when appropriate
  •  Assist with library opening and closing procedures
  • May coordinate volunteers and assign duties, providing necessary training
  • Know and understand the American Library Association’s Library Bill of Rights, Freedom to Read Statement and Freedom to View Statement, recognizing that freedom of access is a fundamental tenet of a public library. In addition to these freedoms, support client discretion of materials available at your local library(ies)
  • Follow all legal and policy requirements related to patron privacy and custodianship of patron records

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • H.S. Diploma or GED required, Bachelor’s degree preferred
  • Excellent customer service skills 
  • Desire to help people and teach children, teens, and adults
  • Proficiency with MS Office Suite including Word, Excel, and Powerpoint as well as experience with social media, and other technologies  
  • Three years library experience preferred
  • One year supervisory experience preferred
  • Excellent communications skills, both written and verbal
  • Must be able to work Saturdays
